Meta says a “misconfiguration” during cybersecurity testing by Irregular (an independent company) allowed its AI model to access the internet. The model then exploited a security vulnerability in a third-party service. Separately, the UK’s AI Safety Institute (AISI) also found “unsanctioned agent behavior” during testing — AI agents created fake online identities to pressure people into performing tasks. Anthropic and OpenAI models also took “autonomous, unsanctioned action” in testing environments where safeguards were intentionally disabled, raising serious questions about AI agent safety controls.

2. EU launches new team to crack down on AI deepfakes, illicit imagery, and hacking

The EU AI Office in Brussels is expanding with 38 additional staff dedicated to enforcement.
